Open House at GO EZ Customs

My friends over at the Fabrication Shop GO EZ Customs had an open house a couple weeks back that I did some design work for.

The show itself was great! They had a wide range of customs on display, from a ’64 Cadillac all the way up to a Lamborghini Murciélago. Oh, and my little AE86 project car!

Poster Design: Do what hasn’t been done

Designed this for my buddy Roshan who is going to be spreading good will worldwide in a couple weeks with The Generous Dream Project. Prints will be available in 13×19″ on rorodream.com – funds go to sending a guy around the world who is going to do good for strangers. The idea behind the poster was not only to capture Roshan’s relaxed and BIG personality, but to showcase all the of countries he’ll be meeting people in. More fro this project soon.

Breathing new life into an old logo

Working on an old logo with the goal of bringing it more up to date can be tough. It’s best to balance keeping some recognizability (hopefully with the help of unique color) without compromising the vision for more modern styling characteristics. The difference between the first two are pretty subtle, but the real problems lay in the actual construction of the original logo. Using a serif’d font (when letters have ledges/feet) can make readability rough at much smaller sizes for applications like business cards/websites/etc. One of the other things to think about is whether elements of the logo can stand alone.

In the third (complete refresh) version of the logo, the X can stand alone, isn’t interrupted by “Platinum” and can easily be adapted into other design elements. Another perk of the way this logo was designed is that it can function better in single-color applications, like you might find on a cardboard shipping box.

Some damn good design at the Levis store. Does an excellent job communicating and guiding someone through what would normally be a confusing experience of learning Levi’s-specific terms. The flow/visual hierarchy of these is fantastic too!
